Computer Network

Computer networks is connecting a computer with other computers or other devices.
e.g : computer devices - equipments
     : transmission media
     : communication devices
     : softwares

Network classification
LAN (Local Area Network) : covers small area.
                                            : e.g : home, school, office
WAN (Wide Area Network) : covers large area
: consists of two or more LAN connecting together.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) : covers metropolitan area
                                                         : consist multiple LAN
                                                         : e.g : city.
PAN (Personal Area Network) : networks of personal devices
                                                 : e.g : printer , mobile devices.

Network Components
1) terminals and workstations
~ refers to data sources and destinations.
    ~ e.g : personal computers , terminals , workstations.

2) transmission media
~ physical media to transmit to transmit data in a networked environment
    ~ Bounded : twisted pair,coaxial, fibre optics
~ unbounded : satelite communications, microwave radio, infrared signals.

3) network electronics devices
    ~ hub
    ~ router
    ~ switched
    ~ bridge
    ~ gateaway

4) software
~ information, data or programming used to make computers communicate or connect to one another.
   ~ share information among computers
~ NOS : network operating system
: controls a network , messages traffic and queues
: provides for certain administrative function.
               : installed on the server
~ client software : installed on PC to access the networks
: to issue requests to networks
computer networks is used for sharing a printer or internet connections among users, sharing applications software with network lisence, working collabotively, sharing database, or using collaboration tools to create and review documents, exchanging files among network users and over the internet, facilitating voice over IP, email and other communication application, connecting the home computers and the entertainment devices. Computer networks provide us with a lot of advantages such as in resource sharing, it is accessible anytime and high reliability. besides, computer networks give benefit in cost effectiveness. It allows effective implementation of complex distributed systems that must works together. networks provide access to needed resources from anywhere at anytime. Computer networks had also useful for individual usage. especially for database access, communication and interactive entertainment.

directions of data transmissions are divided into two which are simple and duplex. Simple is one way communication where data can travel in only one direction. we can divide duplex into two parts; half duplex and full duplex. half duplex is where data can travel in either direction but only in one direction at a time. Full duplex is where data can travel in both directions at one time.
